Text known to Bach (Weimar 1713):

Ach Gott/ wie manches Hertzeleid
begegnet mir zu dieser Zeit/
der schmale Weg ist Trübsals voll/
den ich zum Himmel wandeln soll.

English

O God, how much heartache
I encounter in this time.
The narrow way is full of misery,
on which I shall march towards heaven.

The Print Collection

The setting of chorale 104 was written in a collaborative exercise by Peter Shepherd, William Whitehead and Timothy Byram-Wigfield.
There is a longer setting, commissioned by Harrison and Harrison Ltd and composed by Martyn Harry, which we hope to publish in Orgelbüchlein Extended.

Volume 4 was published in 2017 by Edition Peters. Copies may still be available via their website. The Orgelbüchlein Project plans to publish a revised Volume 4 in due course.
