Text known to Bach (Weimar 1713):
Gott ist mein Heyl/ mein Hülff und Trost/
mein Hoffnung und Vertrauen/
Der mich durch sein Blut hat erlößt/
auf ihn will ich fest bauen.
Denn ich hab all mein Zuversicht/
zum lieben Gott gericht/
denn er verläßt die Seinen nicht.
English
God is my salvation, my help and comfort,
my hope and trust,
who has redeemed me through his blood.
I will build upon him.
For I have all my confidence
directed toward the good Lord,
since he does not abandon his own.

Melody: Bartholomäus Gesius (1562-1613) – Frankfurt an der Oder 1605
