Text known to Bach (Weimar 1713):
Hilf Gott/ daß mirs gelinge/
du edler Schöpffer mein:
Die Sylb in Reimen zwinge/
zu Lob den Nahmen dein/
dass ich mach [?mag] frölich heben an/
von deinem Wort zu singen/
Herr du wollst mir beystahn.
Help me to succeed, God,
my dear creator:
forcing syllables into rhyme
in order to praise your name,
that I may gladly begin
the singing of your word.
Lord, may you assist me.
Melody: Valentin Babst – Leipzig 1545
Text: c.1530, Heinrich Müller († c.1580) – Nuremberg 1530
