Text known to Bach (Weimar 1713):

O Jesu du edle Gabe/
mich mit deinem Blute labe/
daran hab ich meine Freude/
und stets meiner Seelen-Weide/
dein Blut mich von Sünden wäschet/
und der Höllen-Gluth auslöschet.

English

O Jesu, you noble gift,
refresh me with your blood
in which I have my joy
and the eternal pasture of my soul.
Your blood washes away my sins
and extinguishes hell’s embers.
