Text known to Bach (Weimar 1713):
O Gott/ du frommer Gott/
du Brunn-Quell guter Gaben/
ohn dem nichts ist/ was ist/
von dem wir alles haben/
gesunden Leib gib mir/
und daß in solchem Leib
ein unverletzte Seel
und rein Gewissen bleib.
English
O God, thou faithful God,
thou source of good gifts;
without whom nothing is which is,
from whom we have all things.
Give me a healthy body,
and that in this body
an unblemished soul
and pure conscience may abide.
Origination:
Melody: ? Hieronymus Kradenthaller, 1675 – Meiningen 1693
Text: Johann Heermann (1585-1647)
